About Cazzlo

What software tools do you use to create web sites?
Where is Cazzlo Design located?

Do you redesign existing sites?

Yes. We can usually redesign an existing site more quickly, and for less money, than building one from scratch. Send us your existing site's URL (Web address) and a general idea of what you'd like to do, and we'll be glad to give you an estimate.

Do your websites work on all browsers?

Yes. We take great care to test all the websites we build on the five most popular browsers according to W3Schools Browser Stats.

At this time, the 2 most popular browsers are:
Internet Explorer
Get Internet Explorer
Firefox
Get Firefox - The Browser, Reloaded.

What do I need to have in place to have my own website?

What you will need ...
Computer: Although highly recommended, it is not necessary for you to have a computer but it is necessary for those wishing to view your site.
ISP: an Internet Service Provider is how you connect to the Internet. This ISP will provide you with an email address to communicate by electronic mail (email). Examples of ISP's are Xtra, Paradise, Clear

What Cazzlo will provide for you ...
Domain Name:
This is www.yourname.co.nz; your address or home page on the Internet. Cazzlo can register your domain name for you.
Host: An Internet presence provider. This is where your website is stored for the world to view. Cazzlo can host your website for you.
Website Design: You'll need all the codes, computer language, scripts and graphics which, when put together, formulate your website into a viewable form for the world to see. Cazzlo can design and code your website for you.

You need only decide on your domain name & site content; Cazzlo will handle all details from registration of your domain to the launch of your site.

¤ Content is primary!

If you previously hired a graphic designer we can also work with him/her to get any text or graphics files (logos, photos). The content will vary with the purpose of the site but a balance of text & graphics/photographs is recommended for web pages.
  • A business will usually wish to include product & support information, promotions & to co-ordinate their site with existing stationery, decor, slogans, trademarks or logos.
  • Clubs/organisations usually have logos, a charter or background information, rosters & minutes, notification of meetings or events.
  • A family or personal site might have news & photographs about family & friends, family history/genealogies, hobby pages or perhaps a resume.

Do I need a Web Developer? This guy I know said he'd do it.

This is entirely up to you. No, you don't "need" us to make your site.
However, you will generally find that you get what you pay for. Large developer firms will give you a large site and a large bill. We specialize in small-medium businesses. Both the site and associated costs will be reflective of that. Likewise, your friend who makes your site for the cost of a pizza and a beer will probably provide the same. There's nothing wrong with starting out that way, depending on what your goal is.

How long does it take you to complete a web site?

The amount of time it takes to complete a site is subject to it's size, complexity and your level of participation. We typically can have smaller sites completed within a week, however, larger more complex sites will take longer. In addition, if you stay actively involved during the site design process it will be completed sooner. If your site is a time-sensitive priority, then we will work with you to pull in additional resources if necessary and when possible.

I have images that I want on my site. How do I get them to you?

We find that many of my clients have the images in "digital" format, that is they are already on their own computer and they now need to get them to us. In these cases, they can be e-mailed or burned on CD. If you have actual photographs then simply provide them to us and we will scan them.

Can you burn my web site on CD?

Yes, we can burn your web site on CD for you.
Please note that there will be an extra charge for database driven websites when written to CD, as this will have to include the CMS software fee, whereas while it is hosted, you only pay a once-off licence fee for use of the CMS software.

Can Cazzlo Design write content for our website?

Yes, we can, but there may be an additional charge for this service depending on the amount of content to be written. All our packages include a limited amount of content compilation.

What are Cazzlo Design policies about scheduling a project?

Like many service oriented businesses it depends on our current workload. It is safe to assume that we would be able to start most projects within a week or two. If your site is a time-sensitive priority, then we will work with you to pull in additional resources if necessary and when possible.

What costs will be involved with establishing a website?

There are several factors that determine the cost of a web site: Size, level of interactivity and functionality desired, nature of graphics work (logos, etc.) needed in addition to your level of participation and preparedness. Visit the pricing page for a rough cost.

There are mainly three cost elements involved with developing a website and putting it on the Internet.

1. Website Development, Design and Start-Up Costs:
This refers to paying a website design firm to create the site and place the site in search engine registrations worldwide. Costs also include buying a domain name, setting up email addresses and a small fee for your host server configuration. Included in this fee, at no cost, is advice or help in marketing your website. Your website's final costs vary and are proportional to site size and capabilities. (We recommend never building a website without a fixed cost quote in hand.)

2. Hosting: Our hosting charges start from $20 per month

3. Periodic Editing, Update and Edits/Additions: These are charged for starting at $50/hour, unless you have a CMS solution set up for your website.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes, we require a 33% deposit before we start a job, 33% when the final design is approved and building is to commence; and finally, the outstanding amount before the site is launched (made accessible to the public).

Do you offer a free initial consultation?

Yes, initial half hour consultations and quotations are free of charge

Who do we contact for a price quote?

For a price quote, fill out our brief contact form, email, or call us. Include any documentation associated with your company's needs or your current website. We will contact you as soon as possible to discuss the potential of having Cazzlo Design develop your website.

How does Cazzlo Design accept payment?

Payments can me made using a cheque made out to "Cazzlo Design", bank deposit, electronic transfer, cash or even money order. Credit card payments can only be made with prior arrangement. We unfortunately do not accept EFTPOS payments.

Do your Website Package Solutions include web site hosting charges?

No, there is an additional monthly hosting charge starting from $20 per month for hosting.

Can I have my own domain name such as www.mycompany.co.nz or www.mycompany.com?

Yes, domain registration and domain and email hosting is included with all Website Package Solutions. You do however need to use your own ISP. You can choose to either use your existing domain or register a new domain for your site.

Do I get email accounts?

Yes, depending on the Website Package Solution you have chosen, we can set up new email accounts for your domain (which you can access via your email program and webmail), or we can redirect all your mail to your current email address. You do however need to be registered with an ISP.

What can I use for my ".co.nz" address?

There can only be a single specific .co.nz domain name. That is your only severe limitation. We will work with you to find a suitable available address.

What is an ISP, and do I need one?

Your ISP is your "Internet Service Provider". In other words, it is the company that allows you to access the Internet and your e-mail. You do not actually need to have one, but if you are going to have a website, then you really should have an e-mail address available for your clientele to reach you.

What is a "host"?

Your "host" is the company that keeps your files for your website so that people can see them. Cazzlo Design creates your site and "hosts" it on Iserve. If you already have a hosting company, we can continue using them at your request. Monthly hosting charges start from $20.

Should I get a domain name?

Yes, we recommend you get one as soon as possible before it's taken by someone else. Most business owners select their business name as their domain name and this is usually a good idea. Avoid "tongue-twisting" abbreviations, it's better to have a longer name instead!

It is also a good idea to set up a domain relative email address along with your domain name which can be redirected to you email address provided by your ISP. This way you are free to change your ISP without the need to reprint promotional material.

Will my site be submitted to the search engines?

Yes, basic search engine submission is included with all our packages, making use of the free listing services of sites like www.searchnz.co.nz and www.google.com. It can however take a while to get your site listed on various search engines.

If you desire better search results, then we will make recommendations for businesses that specialize in the submission process.

How do I get customers to my site?

Cazzlo will set up your site properly for the search engines and do basic search engine registration. It is up to the client to source possible websites who would be interested in reciprocal linking. Register your website with as many directories as possible and use your website address on all stationery and in all email correspondence.

Getting customers to your site is only the first step. After that you need to make sure that you have a site that is designed to generate interest and sales.

How do I track statistics about traffic on my site?

When your site is hosted with Cazzlo, we will provide you with a login to view statistic tracking, giving you information about visitors and page hits on your site.

Where can I get more information about Search Engines?

Here's some links to some excellent sites that contain detailed information on search engines, how to submit, and how to optimize your site.
SearchEngineWatch.com is an excellent site with TONS of current information.
Google Services and Tools.

I need to update a section of my web site very frequently but I have no knowledge in HTML at all. How can Cazzlo help ?

Under such circumstances, we will install a custom Content Management System (CMS) which will allow you to update certain section of the web site via a user friendly interface.

In this way, even a normal clerk can be trained within a short period to take care of your updating works. This will translate into substantial saving in the long run. We can also offer you a base hourly price for providing updates, or if you have someone who can do it him/herself, then you can go that route. We will design your site so that you may eventually take over the update process even if you are not planning to do it today.

I already have a web site, can you do my updates and changes?

Provide us with the web site address of the site and we will take a look at it. Usually there is no problem with us doing updates to existing websites, but if we find that the site was not professionally designed, we might recommend a completely new site or a site revamp. Cazzlo is also able to plug a Content Management System (CMS) into an existing website.

What is a "data-base" driven web site?

Our Content Management System delivers a database driven web site.

This web site or page is a specific and common type of Web Application. It is a site that receives it's content (as displayed on the page) from an external data source. Unlike ordinary HTML pages, the content (data), is completely separated from the HTML based web page. The data is "retrieved on the fly" and is "fed into" the page at run time (at that moment when the person actually views the page). As a result, data-base driven pages, by necessity, contain advanced code enabling them to interface (communicate) with the data-base.

A data-base driven web page typically takes the following steps:

  • The user enters search criteria into a form indicating the desired records OR this information is "pre-programmed" into a link itself. User may also indicate how these records should be sorted.
  • A program (data-base interface software) receives the user's search criteria (whether user entered it into a text field or it was pre-programmed into a link) and passes it to the Data-Base.
  • The Data-Base returns it's results (records) to the data-base interface software which is responsible for inserting HTML tags into the returned records to create "HTML formatted text".
  • Finally, the data-base interface software writes a web page (on the fly) with this HTML formatted data so that it may be displayed in a Web Browser.

Smaller data-base driven web sites can be implemented entirely with client-side technology (Java, JavaScript). However, when the data set itself is large, server side technology must be used (ASP, JSP, Perl, Python, PHP, Cold Fusion, etc.) in conjunction with traditional "back end" data-bases (Access, SQL-Server, My Sql, etc.). Our Content Management System runs on PHP and MySQL.

What are the advantages of a "data-base" driven web site?

You are probably familiar with typical database programs (Access, File-Maker Pro) and may have used them in your business.

Generally, you create a data-base as a way to store large amounts of information that can be searched and retrieved. They can be used on the web in the same way. Data-bases are often used for large sites where the content changes on a regular basis.

The site developer programs each page to retrieve it's data (the viewable content) from an external data source, which completely separates the content from the underlying workings of the web page and allows the site developer to easily turn over the web site maintenance to the permanent web site administrator (owner, employee, etc.).

The web site administrator does not have to know HMTL, or how any of the pages work - he simply has to know how to update the data-base via our easy to use Content Management System! As a result, data-base driven sites are commonly used when the content is expected to change on a regular basis. They are mandatory for sites that offer traditional data-bases capabilities like "sorting" and "searching".

I need a web site to sell my merchandise online, can Cazzlo Design undertake this this type of work?

Yes we do. Whether you are going to sell only 5 items or even 50,000 items online, we will be able to help you to set up your online mall as economically as possible.

What software tools do you use to create web sites?

Graphics:
For image processing and vector based artwork we use Corel Draw and Macromedia Fireworks.

Animation:
For large animated scenes we use Macromedia Flash. It is a software program similar in spirit to a graphics program (like Photoshop/Corel). It provides for the creation of full screen low-bandwidth animated multimedia presentations with native support for quick loading "vector" graphics.

Web Pages:
For HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX and XML we use Macromedia Dreamweaver and Notepad.

Web Software:
For web programs (Content Management System) we use PHP programming and a MySQL database. (The source is provided by Gravitate Limited.)
